Manx cats originated on the Isle of Man, where they were most likely brought by explorers and settlers. Since their descendants are unknown, local folklore says that the tailless breed was first brought to the island by sea and the majority of folktales focus on the Manx’s lack of tail. Though these stories are truly wonderful, there is a scientific explanation for the most distinguishing characteristic of the breed – the mutation occurred because of the limited genetic diversity on the Isle of Man.

Personality

Despite their unusual looks and proneness to several health problems, Manx cats have stolen the hearts of thousands of people worldwide and they have such a good reputation thanks to their unique personality.

They are excellent family companions and love nothing more than to spend quality time with their humans, playing around the house and jumping from shelf to shelf. When it comes to bonding with their human family, Manx cats are very affectionate towards their people, and get especially attached to children.

As odd as it may sound, these sweet-tempered cats are fascinated by water and will dip themselves in the tub whenever they have the chance.
